More about Freddie
In addition to winning three world championships, he is the
only rider ever to win the 250cc and 500cc Grand Prix World
Championships in the same season (1985). He is the only rider
to win three major races during Bike Week at Daytona
International Speedway (the Superbike, Formula One and
International Lightweight races in 1985), the youngest rider
to win the 500cc Grand Prix World Championship (at 21
and held the record for 30 years until Marc Marquez broke
his record in 2013), the youngest rider ever to win an AMA
Superbike race in 1979 (age 17) and has the longest span
between AMA Superbike victories (just under 16 years).
Spencer retired from full-time GP racing in 1988, but made a couple of comebacks in the next few years. He went on to win three more U.S. Superbike nationals, including his memorable final AMA national victory on a rain-soaked Laguna Seca Raceway in 1995. There, he led by as much as 23 seconds before backing off to cruise to an easy victory. That final victory was just two months shy of 16 years since Spencer had earned his first AMA Superbike win. That span between first and last Superbike victories is a mark that is likely to never be broken.
Freddie was also the youngest Honda motorcycle and Ford Automobile dealership owner in the United States.
After his racing career was over, Spencer founded the successful High Performance Riding School in Las Vegas , Nevada (from 1997 to 2008). He was the Michelin tyres distributor for all the US western market and Arrow exhaust distributor for the
US market until 2008. He also served as an expert TV commentator for Moto GP for NBC, ESPN and Speed Channel (from 1988 to 2009 – over 20 years of broadcasting experience – Speed Channel for 11 years in a row).
Since 2011 he works as brand, motorsport and classic events ambassador, travelling the 5 continents to talk about the passion of motorcycles to younger generations and older fans.
He is also a Magazine Columnist for Cycle World Magazine (US) and after Moto GP reporter for the Motor Sport Magazine podcast.
He is the author of FEEL (his first autobiography) and started writing in 2010.
